Its Christmas!

Another Christmas has come and gone and we didn't go without this year! It was kinda sad not to be in Indiana with our family during the holidays but we were with our Connecticut family. Christmas Eve mom went to church and then we were off to the Moran's for an evening of fun, presents, food and drink. Christmas morning did not disappoint us. We awoke to a downstairs filled with presents for our whole family. Then we were off to the Pokrinchak's and to my mom's aunt's were we had more deilicious food and presents. It was a fun-filled two days and we had a White Christmas. We did miss Indiana for the holidays but we are on a fine new adventure of starting new traditions in Connecticut.

Lyla's Surgery

I never get to write on the blog because Sadie usually takes control, but today is a special day for me because I am having surgery. I have to get my adenoids out and new tubes put in my ears. I have had so many ear infections that they are hoping this does the trick and I will gain my full hearing back and have less infections. We had to get up early this morning and to my disappointment not have anything to eat or drink. I wanted a cup sooo bad and my mom and dad just kept informing me that it wasn't going to happen. We took Sadie to Julie's and off we went to Ridgefield to have my surgery. We arrived and I was so calm. The nurses were so nice to me and made me feel comfortable. Thankfully they waited till I was asleep before they put the IV in me. My mom was relieved to hear that. The doctors came in and off I went with the nurse to the operating room. As I left mom, the nurses were singing "Rudolph" for me and I was relaxed to go on beyond the doors.
About 45 minutes later, the doctors came out to tell mom and dad I did great! I was so happy to see them and cried out to mom while the nurse handed me over! We stayed for about 1 hour after the surgery and I had popsicles and juice. I was doing so well they let me go home. I ate some McDonald's for lunch and played with Sadie. I think I am feeling pretty well considering what I went through today. I have to get better for Santa's arrival!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I felt very special today!

Let it Snow!

Today was our first snow storm of the year! I didn't have school with anticipation of the snow and about noon it started to come down and now it hasn't stopped. After a few inches fell I went to try out my new boots with dad. Lyla wanted nothing to do with it and was quite content watching from the window and even that bored her. So after a few snowangels and falling in the snow I gave in and came in the house. It sure was fun to have our first snowfall a few days before Christmas. Now we are for sure guaranteed a White Christmas!

'Tis the Season!

WOW! It has been nothing but crazy here since Thanksgiving! We celebrated Dad's 36th birthday on the 3rd, we have had mom's Christmas party, I saw Cinderella's Christmas Show and then mom had to go back to Indiana for a few days to say goodbye to her grandma. It was a fun week as dad did a great job taking care of us and making sure we didn't get out of routine too much. It has been very busy as we are trying to get ready for the holidays. Lyla was suppose to have surgery today on her ears and adenoids, but an ear infection with a ruptured eardrum put a cancellation on that so she will have it done on the 22nd. We will write more as things get less hectic around here. We are very busy!

Gobble!

It wasn't just any Thanksgiving for us this year. It was our first Thanksgiving in Connecticut and we were not going to go to Indiana for the holiday. We were lucky because grandma, Aunt Sarah, Uncle Rodney, Addie and Ray came to us instead. We had the best time. We went to my mom's aunt's for Thanksgiving and then Friday we went to NYC. I LOVE the city so much that I am beginning to feel like the tour guide when I go through Grand Central Station. What a great expereince for a 4 year old! We did all the tourist things since Rodney has never been and we rode the subway, train, cabs and walked too. We were the best kids in the city. We didn't cry or whine and our parents were so happy to spend such a wonderful day in NYC with such great kids.

Saturday we put up our Christmas decorations and went shopping alittle bit. It was so fun to put ornaments on the tree. The Moran's came over for dinner and we were able to play with our cousins and some of our friends. It was so sad to see them go this morning, but we know that no matter when we see them again we will always have this much fun! Thanks for the great weekend!!

Francis comes to the Mellens'

Holy Infant Nursery School has a mascot, Francis. Over the weekend someone has to take care of Miss/Mr Francis and this weekend was my special weekend. We spend time with Francis and then we journal and take pictures of what we did with our friend over the weekend. I brought Francis home from school on Friday. Saturday we went to swimming and then we had some of our friends over to our house. It was fun to play with all my friends and introduce them to Francis. It was funny that my friend Jessica had her class's bear with her too, Parker. It was a fun weekend and we really enjoyed having Francis at our house. Now back to school tomorrow for only one day this week. Lyla and I are really excited about this week because Grandma is coming with Sarah, Rodney, Addie and Ray. Its going to be a fun and fast week for us! We hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Playdates fun for everyone!

I am having alot of playdates lately. Boy, are they fun! I usually get picked up after school by mom, but on days when I go to my friends' houses I get to ride home with them. This is really a special treat and I love it even more when people come to our house. I don't know who loves them more, mom, Lyla or me, but we all seem pretty content on playdate days! The norm for us is probably 1 to 2 playdates a week and we usually have Jessica, Brianna, Sarah over to our house and I go over there as well. Sometimes we have a big playdate when my 3 friends from school, Jess, Brianna, Liam and me hang out at the same house. It is really a fun time. The moms love it too. Not only do the little brothers and sisters get to hang out with everyone and get that energy gone before naptime, but the moms get to catch up on whatever they need to say as they sit in the kitchen and keep telling us to "GO PLAY"! So who's playdate is it really? Don't get me wrong I love playing with my friends no matter where we end up or which one of my special friends is able to play that day, but who is really have more fun? I think mom is really loving these days as well. She gets to relax while I play and Lyla naps and if I am gone she can have the house to herself while the little one sleeps and if we are all together she gets to be with her wonderful friends too. So playdates really are a huge WIN for everyone that is involved!

Another Saturday Night

Today was the last day of soccer and what a big day it was! I scored 2 goals and got a trophy with my name on it and everything. I am quite proud of it, I must say! Lyla got a haircut and it is very cute. It is a short bob and she thinks she is so cool for getting it done. She was so good and sat there with a lollipop the whole time. Mom has started to put Lyla on the toilet. Lyla will sit on there, but won't actually perform. She likes just sitting on it and getting her reward, a few M&M's. We are working on it and hope we will be more successful after her surgery. We are getting pretty excited for grandma, Sarah, Rodney, Addie and Ray to come visit over Thanksgiving. I can't wait!! I have started to count down when I get to see my cousins.
We also got a new toyroom. It is so fun to have a room that we can totally make a mess out of and mom doesn't stress out about it. We play house and school in there all the time. Its been a great addition to the house!
Today we also went and got our flu shot. We were both kinda scared, but when we got there we found out we wouldn't be getting a shot, but they would simply use the spray that went up our nose so no needles here! What a relief! Daddy took us so he felt much better that he didn't have to hold anyone down.
Another exciting week has passed and we are looking forward to playgroups this week and more and more playing. School is so fun. This week I got chosen for the Touch Box. I guessed the right thing in it, which was sugar, and now I get to bring something from home to put in the touch box for next week. It is pretty exciting stuff at Holy Infant to get chosen for the touch box. I already know what I am bringing in on Monday, but its a secret!!

Halloween!

What an exciting time of the year! Holidays are soon approaching and the calendar is just going to be filling up with things to keep us busy. Today at school we were able to dress up in our costumes, I was the Statue of Liberty, and we had a parade for our parents. We sang our Halloween songs for mom and dad and everyone was so impressed. Then we had our friends over Miles, Landon, Jessica and Tyler, to come and Trick or Treat with us. We had so much fun. I love when we have get togethers. We had pizza and then we were able to eat our candy for dessert! Lyla probably opened the most candy! Speaking of the little angel, Lyla had a hearing test done this week because she has had so many ear infections that the dr is concerned about her hearing loss. Even though they did find some loss there they have decided to take her adenoids out and replace her tubes in her ears. She will have surgery on December 12th. Mom wishes it was a little earlier so Lyla can get some relief from all the pressure in her ears.
It was a busy weekend and we are looking forward to more exciting adventures in the next couple of weeks. I start swimming the 15th and soccer will end. I really like to swim and mom thinks I can be pretty good at it if I keep practicing. I might as well use those long legs God has given me!

A Perfect Fall Weekend

What a great weekend! We started out with my soccer game in the morning and boy was it cold! Then we went to Sullivan Farm where the weather decided to be nice and we were able to go on a hayride and pick a few pumpkins. The activities weren't over for us yet as we went to the Harvest Party at Clatter Valley Park. We dressed up at the Statue of Liberty and a little angel. I think we had the best costumes there! We decorated our pumpkins, played with our friends and even hit the pinata. It was so much fun. Sunday we ventured off to another farm where we saw cows, pigs and chickens. We went on another hayride and got 2 more pumpkins. Tomorrow I get to go on a bus for school and go on a field trip to the same farm. We have never been to so many farms in our lives. This fall weather and activites couldn't be any better.

A weekend to celebrate our mom!

We have been here for 6 months and have visited Indiana a total of ONCE! So to have company is really exciting for us. We love when our friends and family make the trip so we can share our wonderful life with other people. So this weekend it was mom's 32nd birthday and Tia (aka Lucy according to Sadie) and Trisha flew in to share with her a special girls' weekend. What a great time! We woke mom up with hugs and screaming "Happy Birthday". All the lady could do was smile. How can life get any better? Wake up to a great family and friends there to celebrate another year . Mom went to NYC to spend the day at the spa and shopping while we stayed with daddy. Boy was that fun! Dad took us to the pumpkin patch, the park and lunch. We decorated the house for mom with pumpkins and dad even got the outside of the house done so mom would be suprised. She was rather impressed when she got home the next day. Mom wasn't done celebrating as she took her friends to meet the New Milford friends. She feels so lucky to have such wonderful people in her life. Mom was really touched that so many of her friends came to wish her a happy birthday. It was a perfect weekend for her! We were so happy to be able to give her a day she rarely is able to get, kidless! Friends have gone home and life is back to normal. Yes, she misses her friends from home, but what a true blessing we have here in New Milford. We have amazing people who have made our new town a real place to call home!

Apple Picking

Today we went with our friends to Averill Farm and picked our own apples. It was a new experience for us and we really enjoyed it. We got there after caravaning to the orchard where we found ourselves surrounded by all the pretty trees. We got our bags and started pulling the apples right off the trees. It was a fun day to run around and enjoy the great day. Sadie has had about 12 apples today and mom made an apple crisp that isn't very good. Well, we have enough to keep trying!

Our first 6 months

Where to begin? We have had a HUGE change of events for two little people in this big world! We have moved across country to start a whole new life in Connecticut. We headed out east March 15, 2008 and lived in the Residence Inn for 3 weeks while we were getting our house ready. We finally moved in and our life has not been the same. We have had an amazing couple of months and have met some of the greatest people. We spent the summer at the beach and played in Indiana for 2 weeks, where we visited our family and our friends. We were lucky enough to spend the 4th of July riding on the Mellen float and spending the holiday with our family. We still managed to win this year and another trophy! Now that Fall is in full swing our activities are getting a change too. Sadie has started school 3 days a week and playing soccer on Saturdays. Lyla is loving going to playgroups and the park while Sadie goes to school. Mom is involved teaching CCD, MOMS Club and going to the gym every morning with her workout partner, Julie. Dad is working very hard and not traveling nearly as much as when we lived in Indiana. We love having our dad home! He does enjoy playing rounds of golf with a few of his new friends. He has even played with mom's uncle, Brian, a few times. We love to spend our free time with our new friends and going to parties with all of them. We couldn't have been placed in a better town! New Milford has given us nothing to complain about!
